Daniel Greenberg

Daniel has over 20 years of experience in international education, concentrating on a very important component of global citizenship: sustainability awareness and education. In 1999, Daniel founded the non-profit Living Routes, which partnered with UMass-Amherst to run study abroad programs based in ecovillages around the world. Over 1,500 students were transformed by these immersive experiences. In 2012 Daniel founded Earth Deeds, which offers online tools for individuals and groups to “onset” their unavoidable CO2 emissions and support meaningful sustainability projects. Daniel has been a leading advocate for sustainability within international education and the ecovillage movement. He chaired Sustainability Task Forces for NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Forum for Education Abroad, is co-founder and past Board Member of Gaia Education, and currently serves as President of the Global Ecovillage Network.

Kevin Locke (In Memoriam, 2022)

Kevin Locke (TokaheyaInajin in Lakota translation “First to Rise”) is a world-famous visionary Hoop Dancer, preeminent player of the Indigenous Northern Plains flute, traditional storyteller, cultural ambassador, recording artist and educator. Kevin is Lakota and Anishnabe. While his instructions were received from his immediate family and community, from extended family in every part of the world, Kevin has learned many lessons in global citizenship and how we each can draw from our individual heritages to create a vibrant, evolving global civilization embracing and celebrating our collective heritage.

Robert Kruger, PhD

Robert Kruger is an archaeologist with a Ph.D. in Anthropology with a specialization in Mesoamerican Archaeology from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1997 and 1998 he led Guilford College’s semester abroad program in Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2000 he took over as Resident Director for the Xalapa, Mexico semester program for Brethren Colleges Abroad (later BCA Study Abroad, Inc.), a position that he held until 2017. During that time Kruger developed several educational experiences for the students that furthered BCA’s mission of promoting values of peace and social justice. He was also involved in other tasks for BCA, such as committee work, new program development, and the designing of BCA’s policy guidelines on experiential learning practices. He has published as well as presented at professional conferences on several aspects of this work.

Dr. Kruger remains active as an archaeologist. He is currently a professor in the Anthropology Department of the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico, and he continues to publish on a variety of issues.

Peter Gitau, PhD

Dr. Peter Gitau is the Vice President for Student Affairs at Dixie State University in Southern Utah where he leads a comprehensive division of over 20 departments. Driven by a conviction that every student can learn, Dr Gitau has a strong commitment to access, inclusiveness & opportunity. Always in pursuit of excellence and quality improvement, Dr Gitau strongly believes in a truly progressive, post-modern university that embraces trans-disciplinarity, nurturing environments that promote authentic, real life student learning. He is a strong proponent of holistic learning and the seamless integration of curricular and co-curricular programs, endeavoring to create partnerships for learning and cross- divisional collaborations across campus.

As the Founder and President of the African International Foundation for Educational Excellence (AIFEE), a non-profit organization with service learning sites and community development initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa, Dr Gitau has facilitated the international engagement of hundreds of students, faculty, staff and community members. Dr Gitau is an accomplished leader and advocate for global engagement, diversity and inclusiveness.

Gerard Escaler

Gerard Escaler is the Chief Marketing Officer at Lyrium Venture Partners Limited. An international marketing professional with over 25 years of experience, he leads Sales & Business Development, e-Commerce, Demand Generation, Product Development, Branding & Communications, Media Relations, Video & Multimedia, Social Media, Design, and Customer Experience. He also oversees the Intellectual Property, Human Resources, and Legal functions.

He is proficient in German and Spanish and he speaks basic French and Mandarin.

JoAnn de Armas Wallace (In Memoriam, 2021)

JoAnn deArmas Wallace is of Cuban and Andaluz descent. She served as Dean of the Center for International Education at Juniata College from 1999 to 2008 when she retired. Previously she was director of Antioch Education Abroad from 1988 to 1998. She has also served in interim study abroad positions at DePauw University and Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) and was an active participant in NAFSA: Association of International Educators as a conference presenter and consultant on a broad range of subjects including program development, faculty preparation for program leadership, student orientation and safety and liability issues. JoAnn developed direct individual and group exchanges in a wide variety of areas from music to farming to language teaching.

Michael Loadenthal

He is the Executive Director of the Peace and Justice Studies Association, and also serves as an Assistant Professor of Research in the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Cincinnati, and the Executive Director of the Prosecution Project. He completed his PhD in 2015 at George Mason University, and previously completed an MLitt at the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at the University of St Andrews in 2010. Dr. Loadenthal has taught courses on political violence, peace studies, and sociology at Georgetown University, George Mason University, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Malta, Miami University, Jessup Correctional Institution, and the DC Jail. Michael has served as the Dean’s Fellow for the George Mason’s School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, a Practitioner-In-Residence for Georgetown’s Center for Social Justice, a Research Fellow at Hebrew Union College’s Center for the Study of Ethics and Contemporary Moral Problems, and a Senior Research Associate with the Better Evidence Project. His work has been published in a variety of venues including Studies in Conflict & Terrorism, Critical Studies on Terrorism, Journal for the Study of Radicalism, Perspectives on Terrorism, Journal of Applied Security Research, Journal of Feminist Scholarship, Journal of Radical Criminology, Anarchist Developments in Cultural Studies and other social movement and political theory journals and books.
