Abroadia Fall Semester Visits

Abroadia Fall Semester Visits

We are excited to be visiting several college/university campuses this fall. Nothing is so inspiring to us than to visit a campus, interact with students, converse with education abroad colleagues and learn from faculty and staff. It never gets old to see the gleam in a student’s eyes when he or she talks about studying abroad. We love to make that a reality for them.

The Passing of an Abroadia Ally

The Passing of an Abroadia Ally

Abroadia mourns the loss of friend and Abroadia ally, Carlos Ramírez Martín. Carlos was a radio personality who frequently engaged in meaningful and important discussion on Ycoden Daute Radio in Tenerife, Spain. We had the honor of being interviewed by him twice for his radio program and we recall the comfort we had with him because of welcoming presence, his sincere appreciation for highlighting the Cuban people and his enthusiasm for meeting new people and learning new things. We were privileged to know him and will try, in our own way, to continue his tradition of discussions, debates and acquiring knowledge. Descansa en paz, amigo. Te extrañaremos.

Today, November 1st, marks the beginning of American Indian Heritage Month and Abroadia salutes our friends who are still struggling to maintain their voice in the vast echo chamber that is the American cultural and political landscape. We ask that you take a moment to reflect on the heritage and history of our American Indian friends.

Abroadia has reviewed numerous books about American Indians . Here are four that we recommend you read:

Killers of the Flower Moon, by David Grann

Killing the White Man’s Indian, by Fergus Bordewich

Empire of the Summer Moon, by S.C. Gwynne

The Death of James Loney, by James Welch
